Portland, Oregon PORTLANDIA
Portland is an amazing city. I have east coast cousins who lived there in the ‘80’s and they loved it there, but from hearing the descriptions all I could really get was that it rained a lot and there were cool neighborhoods. We didn’t know them when they lived there since our family was large and spans both coasts, and we call each other cousins however we are related. They moved to San Diego because Bill got a new job at MTS to put in the trolley lines. They heard there was family here so after they settled in, they looked us up, it turns out that they moved to a neighborhood about 1 mile from the house I grew up in and my Mom still lives in, about 3 blocks from where my sister now lives. Nothing they said about Portland ever made us want to visit though.
It was the TV show Portlandia (I know this is probably offensive to people of Portland, but it’s true) and the fact that none of us had ever been there that got us to go. We took an informal vote around December and start making plans. We planned to do most of Portland with public transportation since it is so great there, but since we wanted to see the mountains and coast we rented a car for 2 days and used it to deliver us all to the airport also.
