Dim Sum

Union Station looking up.

Finding Ocean Seafood was an accident, we took a day trip to Los Angeles from San Diego to go to the garment district.  We need an ATM and stopped at the Cathay Bank on Broadway and had to pay for parking, since there was a restaurant on the site and we were hungry, we decided try it, I had no feelings one way or the other about Dim Sum. This began a brand new love affair with the little dumplings. This happened to be the best dim sum restaurant that I’ve been to.  There aren’t many in San Diego, they have to be outstanding to mention, and locally, my favorite is Fung Fung Yuen.  We are lucky to have any at all, but when I have the chance to have great dim sum, I’ll take it. I’ll even make an excuse to go to LA to eat my little dumplings.

This past weekend I set out with 2 of my friends to take the Metrolink from Oceanside to Union Station, the idea was to visit Grand Central Market and make a side trip to get some dim sum. The Metrolink ticket on the weekend was $10 round trip and included transfers for bus and train. On our way up the coast Corinne mentioned that Dim Sum is typically a breakfast or lunch experience, so we decided to go there first. So glad we had changed our course because the Women’s march 2019 was occurring at the same time and it’s route lay between Ocean Seafood and Grand Central Market, straight down Broadway at the halfway point.

We had no idea this was going on when we left San Diego where the train originated, but it became very clear as the train stopped and picked up more people. By the time we reached the ending destination of Union Station the train was packed with people obviously heading to participate in the march. It made for some great people watching but eating at Grand Central Market was now out of the questions due to the crowds.
